Appropriate Technology for Health

According to World Health Organisation, in 2002 alone, 1.4 million deaths among children under the age of 5 could have been prevented by routine vaccinations. CREATE's expertise in the maintenance and support of Cold Chain (for effectively storing and transporting vaccines under chilled conditions from manufacturer to end-user), and medical waste management has been developed in direct response to this challenge.

Technical Development and Evaluation of Technologies

CREATE evaluates, develops and promotes best practices in technologies which support the Cold Chain and other health systems. We carry out field trials and evaluation of solar and kerosene refrigerators and small-scale medical waste incinerator technologies. CREATE undertakes laboratory level prototype development of solar and solar hybrid refrigerators, and the development of solar powered technologies for processing medical sharps waste.
